A hangnail is a small piece of silver opening of the skin that has been tattered on the rim of a fingernail or toe-nail. Mostly you may have seen that you develop more hangnails in the winter season as your skin dries out really fast. There are several causes of hangnails like nail biting, harsh chemicals or frequent immersion in water, and more. If you have chronic, consistent hangnails, then it can lead to infection. An infection in the skin around your Hangnail can be red, swollen and painful, and it could also emit pus. Cure as soon as possible to reduce swelling and pain. Now that you know how hangnails occur, you’re perhaps wondering about how to cure pain of Hangnail infection. Home remedies are fast and easy ways for treating hangnails that vary from moisturizing regularly to pampering your hands with cuticle soaks and manicures.

Home Remedies for Infected Hangnail:

Stop biting your hangnails

Nail biting contributes to hangnails, as well as increases your risk of developing an infection or warts. Additionally, you can transfer viruses and bacteria that are on your fingers directly into your mouth, which can lead to illnesses like colds or flu, or other nasty problems. Biting hangnails can cause deep cuts, which are more painful compared to the original hangnail. The best natural cure that you can do is to keep away your habit of biting the nails, as it can cause tension and tearing to your skin, making the problem worse.

Moisturize regularly

Keeping your hands and nails properly moisturized is a simple natural cure that can help to treat the hangnails as well as keep any future happenings at bay. If you are prone to hangnails, try applying a lotion or hand cream to your nail beds 2-3 times daily. This easy step can have a huge impact on your overall nail health.

A simple soak

Soak your affected nail in warm water for 10-15 minutes, as it will help drain the pus and it will also make the pain subside. Once you soak the infected nail in the warm water, it will be much easier and less painful to clip the hangnail. It is good to clip a hangnail after it becomes soft rather than it is hard, as clipping a hard hangnail can cause bleeding and burning pain.

Use hydrogen peroxide

To cure hangnail infection, wash it with soap and water or hydrogen peroxide (better). Take water in a big bowl so that you can soak your fingers comfortably, put 2 tsp. hydrogen peroxide in to it and soak your fingers for 20 minutes. By this way, you can clean your fingers. Afterwards, take warm olive oil or coconut oil and massage it carefully on your nails, cuticles and fingers.

Salty water is good solution

Dissolve salt into warm water and soak the infected hangnail in the solution for around 20 minutes. The salinity of the blend can act as an antibacterial agent, because microbes cannot bear the osmotic pressure produced by the salt. One such other remedy is to make a solution of vinegar and water, soak your fingers in it for two times a day for some weeks. As well, you can soak your finger in a solution of bleaching powder and water.

Make use of almond mask or garlic mask

Take a few almonds and make a fine paste by grinding them. You can also include some almond oil to the paste in order to dilute the almonds. Further, add egg yolk in it and blend properly to get a fine and smooth paste. Apply this paste on infected hangnail.

Make use of garlic as it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps treat infection, swelling and provide relief. You can crush some cloves of garlic, and put them over and around the infected nail. Tie a clean cotton cloth for more security. Open and clean it after an hour.

Other natural cures for hangnail infection:

  • Apply ice wrapped in a plastic bag/napkin on the affected area, as it will help to decrease the swelling and pain effectively.
  • Hangnails can be caused by exposure to soap and water, chemicals or cleansers, for extended periods, so ensure you wear gloves to protect the skin on your hands.
  • Different oils like tea tree oil, lavender oil, wheat germ oil, sesame oil or olive oil could help cure the Hangnail infection effectively and maintain your fingernail health. Massage with any of these oils on the affected area twice a day for 15 minutes. Continue this for few weeks.
  • Apply turmeric on the affected area and cover it with cotton, as it has antiseptic properties which will help to fight the pain.
  • Apply a paste of honey and cinnamon powder on the affected area and wash off after an hour. End by massaging the nail with any of the oils listed above.
  • If you think you are not able to get rid of hangnails on your own, try getting regular manicures as it will help to keep your fingertips soft and grasp hangnails before they become painful.

That’s why; face, neck, legs, underarms, upper thigh, and the pubic region are the most vulnerable areas. Although the condition is not serious, these ingrown hairs can be extremely painful. In fact, deep ingrown hairs can lead to severe infections underneath your skin. Fortunately, there are a few simple home remedies that can help you get rid of ingrown hairs at home! However, you must be extra careful when trying out these remedies – otherwise you may end up damaging your skin. And if you think that an ingrown hair has become infected then it is best to consult your dermatologist. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at some of the most effective ingrown hair removal home remedies.

Salt Scrub

When using it on your face: Add one and half teaspoon of salt to one cup of warm water. Dip a cotton ball into this mixture and gently swipe it a few times over the areas that have ingrown hair. Don’t rinse it off; instead allow it to sit there. Doing so will enable the salt to cleanse and exfoliate the skin. And eventually, it will draw out the troublesome hair. Apply this mixture everyday until the hair comes out. However, if you find that your skin has become irritated or red, then discontinue using it immediately.

When using it on your body: If you want to get rid of ingrown hair from bikini area or legs then simply add two cups of Epsom salt in your bath tub. Alternatively, you can also directly apply the Epsom salt to wet skin. Gently rub it in a circular motion and then rinse it off with water after sometime. Direct application will exfoliate more strongly.

Mix half cup of jojoba oil or virgin oil to one cup of white cane sugar. If you’re going to use this scrub on face, then make sure to increase the quantity of oil to one cup. Now, take tea tree oil and lavender oil. Add 20 drops of one of these oils or 10-10 drops of each of the oil to the mixture and stir them thoroughly.

Dab a small amount of scrub onto your palm and apply it to wet skin in a circular motion directly with your palms or using a washcloth. Thereafter, rinse it off with water. You can store any leftover scrub in an airtight jar for later use.

Mix one part white vinegar to one part water and soak the affected part of the skin in it for about 10 -15 minutes. Then rub the area gently with a warm wet towel. And if it’s not possible to soak the area in the mixture directly (for example your armpit), then immerse a warm wet towel in vinegar and place it on the affected area for around 10 -15 minutes. Repeat the procedure for about 3-4 times a day.

Aspirin is one of the most effective remedy for ingrown hair removal. Dissolve two uncoated aspirins in a teaspoon of warm water and apply the resulting paste on the affected area of the skin. Wait for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. You can use this remedy for eliminating ingrown hair from face, legs, arms, armpits and bikini line.

If you’ve only a few difficult hair strands to deal with, then you can use tweezers specially made for ingrown hairs to nip them out from the skin. Soak a soft washcloth in hot water and place it over the affected area. Let it be there for about 5 minutes. This will open up the skin pores and soften the hair. Now grab a pair of tweezers (sanitized with alcohol) and gently pull the hair tip away from the skin. Once the hair is out, use nail scissors to trim the curl. Just see to it that you don’t disturb the root; or else it may cause further irritation to the hair follicle.

Warm compress

Get a clean napkin or gauze and soak it in lukewarm water for around 5 minutes. Then place it to the affected area for a few minutes. When the washcloth begins to cool off, wet it again in warm water. Repeat the process for about 5 times. Within a few applications of the moist compress, the entrapped hair would break through the skin surface, and it will be much easier for you to remove the ingrown hair.

Warm milk and bread compress

Take a small amount of warm milk and dip a piece of bread into the milk. Place the bread on an ingrown hair. Wait until it feels cool (say about 2 minutes) and then take it off. Again dip the bread in warm milk. Repeat this whole process for about ten minutes. Now check for an opening of the pore and then gently tease the hair out of the skin with the help of a needle. If you can’t see the opening, repeat the dip and hold process. Still, if it fails to open, consult your health professional for advice.

Moisturize your skin

A very simple yet effective way to eliminate ingrown hairs is to thoroughly moisturize the affected area of the skin. If you’ve been confronting the menace of ingrown hairs, then make sure to moisturize the area in generous measures even it it’s not dry. For best results, apply a moisturizing cream or lotion before going to bed and leave it overnight. This will keep your skin soft, making it easy for the hair to push out of the skin.

Acne medication

Applying a dab of acne medication on the affected area is another effective remedy for ingrown hair removal. Simply apply salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide on affected part several times a day for a few days. This, when combined with daily exfoliation, will really help you get rid of the ingrown hair.

Egg membrane

Take out the thin membrane that lines inside of an eggshell. Cover the affected part with this membrane. Allow it to dry and shrink around the area. Once it gets dried, pull it off. The ingrown hair should come out along with it.

Letting the hair grow

When it comes to stubborn ingrown hair, it would be a wise option to wait for a few weeks and let the hair grow. At some point during its growth, the hair would break through the skin and rise to the surface on its own. Make sure you continue with your exfoliation and moisturizing processes until the hair breaks through. A waiting period of around 14 days is recommended to allow the hair grow naturally.…

Jojoba oil Benefits for Skin

Jojoba oil works as an excellent all-natural moisturizer for your skin, especially dry skin. It provides the adequate moisture to the skin without clogging the pores and adding a greasy effect. It is absorbed in the skin quickly and creates a powerful barrier against allergens and irritants such as dust and pollution. Just apply a small amount of oil directly on your face or full body after a bath in the morning for keeping the skin moisturized throughout the day. You can use the oil directly or mix it with your regular face moisturizer. It is very effective in treating those pesky dry patches, rosacea or eczema.

Pimples or acne are the most common skin condition affecting thousands of teenagers. The main reason of acne is clogged pores. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of Jojoba oil helps to reduce and prevent acne-related problems such as pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Thus, provide you smooth and acne-free skin. Apply the jojoba oil on the affected area without scrubbing thrice a day to treat acne. You can also apply the mixture of jojoba oil (1 tsp) and tea tree oil (5 drops) in the same way for a more effective treatment. Store the mixture in glass container in the refrigerator.

Make-Up Remover

Jojoba oil can be used for removing facial makeup: blush, mascara, foundation, eye shadow, liner, kohl and lipstick. It removes the makeup gently and leaves the skin soft and supple. Simply, massage the oil over your face with a gentle hand for 1 to 2 minutes and wipe it away with a moist washcloth. The oil dissolves the makeup and thereby makes it easy to remove.

Oil Balancing

The composition of Jojoba oil is just like the sebum produced by the skin so it is great for the people suffering from excessive oily skin. It balances the excess production of skin oils by stopping the sebum from secreting more oil. If you have oily skin, then you should apply jojoba oil daily to restore the moisture level of the skin.

The oil not only makes the skin moisturized, but also decreases the appearance of wrinkles & fine lines. Vitamin E present in the oil eliminates the free radicals and helps to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging on the skin. Apply few drops of oil daily on face before going to bed and leave it overnight.

Treats Skin Infections

The oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which help to treat skin problems like eczema, cold sores, sunburns, psoriasis, warts, Athlete’s foot and fungal infections. It also treats arthritis and rheumatism, thanks to myristic acid contained in the oil. Apply the oil on the affected areas to treat the infection.

Chapped Lips

In winter, dry and chapped lips are very common problem. So, whenever you feel your lips have become dry, apply jojoba oil on them for an extra-light alternative to lip balm. It will make the lips smooth and chap free.

Moisturize the Feet

Lack of moisture is one of the key causes of cracked feet or fissures. You can easily get rid of this problem and make your feet smooth & attractive with the help of jojoba oil. Regular application of jojoba oil on the feet will heal and soften the cracked areas. All you have to do is apply oil on cracked feet and put on the socks. After that, leave on for about 1 hour.
