Mainly, Arame is reaped from the cold waters off the coast of South Korea and Japan. The Arame is used mostly in the Asian cuisine, mainly in countries like Japan, China, Korea, but also in Peru and Indonesia. Japan is the only country that is a major producer of Arame, but it has a mild, sweet taste that most Westerners enjoy from the start. Arame blades, which grow in wide leaves up to a foot in length, are sliced into long, string like strands, cooked for seven hours, sun dried, and packaged. Arame is generally bought in a dried state and has a mild sweet flavor with firm texture. It is reconstituted quickly, taking about five minutes and once it is reconstituted it may be served as dish or as garnish in other dishes.

Seaweeds are marine algae that grow along seabeds, but can usually be found floating along the shore. They dwell in salt water or brackish water. Scientists often called it “benthic marine algae” which means “attached algae that live in the sea.” Seaweeds are green, brown, or red and the two major groups of seaweeds are wracks (brown) and kelps (green, such as sea lettuce). The main types of seaweeds are Nori, Kombu, and Wakame. The sea vegetable Arame is brown kelp closely related to wakame and kombu, but in the package or cooked, it looks more like strands of black hiziki. Arame may be added to other dishes of  appetizers, muffins, casseroles, pilafs, Salads, soups, toasted dishes, and many other types of food.
