Beware of Foods that cause Indigestion

Generally, it takes place as the result of eating too much, eating high-fat foods, eating too fast, eating during stressful situations or eating foods that don’t agree with your stomach. Most of people feel this vague feeling of discomfort in the abdomen or upper belly during or right after consumption of foods. Indigestion, also called dyspepsia, can be bothersome and embarrassing. It can be occurred to people of all ages. If you are experiencing indigestion frequently, observe what you have consumed. Many foods are responsible for this condition and some foods even make it worse, so beware of such foods is the only solution to eliminate the symptoms of indigestion.

Beware of Foods that cause Indigestion

Indigestion, gastric problems and bloating go hand in hand. Sometimes, it may take place due to the excessive production of acid in the stomach, which leak in the esophagus. So, the problem of indigestion is also referred as acid reflux or heartburn. Sipping of excessive air while eating also raises the symptoms of bloating and belching which are frequently related to indigestion. Unhealthy food and improper diet can lead to indigestion very easily. An individual’s risk is raised with too much alcohol consumption, using drugs that have irritating effect on the abdomen, emotional problems such as depression or anxiety, and other functional disorders such as Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Carbonated Drinks

Mint and carbonated beverages is one of classic food combinations that don’t agree with your stomach at all! Even if they are mixed in the right proportions, the ingredients of these both foods have the potential to produce toxic substances as toxic as cyanide. When you decide to chew a mint in mouth after drinking an aerated drink, you must think about this warning.

Aerated drinks fulfill the stomach with air, and shove the stomach contents up side and put pressure on the sphincter i.e. positioned between your esophagus and stomach. This pressure can let some of the acidic contents of stomach to reflux, which leads to indigestion.

Protein and Starch

Protein and Starch, both are different things and their digestive procedures are also totally different. And that’s the only reason to avoid the consumption of these two nutrients together. Protein gets digested in the stomach while starch is being digested in the small intestine. When the food enters the stomach, the problem creates.

At the time when protein gets digested, starch remains in the stomach as it is and thus it gets converted into the toxic. Additionally, starchy food containing Trans fat would also advance to other parts of the body while the protein in the food is in the process of digestion.

Milk with Sour Fruits, Vegetables and other Foods

Avoid intake of milk with sour foods. When milk and sour foods are eaten together, they tend to produce an acidic reaction in the stomach. Many folk tales and superstitions are circulating among people about the consumption of milk and sour foods.

This unusual type of combination can cause the contents of the stomach to be poisonous which in order lead to several issues such as acidity, stomach pain, heat burns, dysentery, severe bouts of vomiting and so on. Milk is difficult to digest food in itself so when you mix it with other hard to digest foods such as fruits and certain kinds of vegetables, you would most likely to develop digestive disorders.

Fruits and Starch

As we all know that starch gets digested in the small intestine, it should not be consumed with any other food combinations! Fruits are also belonging in that list of foods. Eating fruits with foods which laden with starch can work in two ways; both ways affect the body in a range of ways.

As the fruits get digested first in the stomach, starchy foods have to wait that leads to toxic reaction. When you intake fruits right after a meal, they have to stay in the stomach for long time because the starchy foods are being digested in the small intestine. It can lead to the fermentation of fruits which can become toxic later.

Sugar and Proteins

Eating dessert just after taking a meal loaded with proteins can have unfavorable effects on the body. It takes place due to the fact that the sugars present in the dessert have a tendency to act with the enzymes accountable for digesting protein.

By this way, the activity of the enzyme gets sluggish and they take more time to digest the protein, a factor that can lead to gastric issues or indigestion. Always consider this point while thinking about taking dessert after a meal. Following the main course, take dessert after at least half an hour or eat those desserts that contain sugar alternative such as honey or any other.

Peppermint and Chocolate

These are another food that leads to indigestion. Chocolate and peppermint both have relaxing effect on the sphincter at the top of the esophagus. It opens when the little gait gets relaxed and lets all the food to re-enter from the stomach to the esophagus, which leads to severe heartburn and reflux and make indigestion worse.

Spicy and Fatty Foods

Avoid having spicy foods which are high in powder spices particularly red chilli powder and chaat masala as they can also cause indigestion. Spicy foods are difficult to digest and this can lead to gastric and heart burn.

Fatty and oily food often leads to gas and indigestion in the stomach. Oil gets deposited in the stomach, which can lead to acid reflux and indigestion slowly. So, fast foods like French fries, burgers, potato chips, butter, pakoras, grilled meat, cookies or snacks must be avoided.

Tips to Prevent Indigestion:

  • Consume several small meals during the day, rather than including three large meals. While eating, take your time and chew thoroughly.
  • Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages and alcohol as they can also aggravate your indigestion.
  • Try not to put more pressure on your stomach while it’s digesting after taking a food. Wear loose and comfortable clothing, sit up straight, and wait for at least an hour after a meal to lie down. Instead of bending from your waist, try to bend your knees.
  • If you experience indigestion frequently at night, try to eat your dinner at least 3 hours previous to going bed. Also make an effort to sleep with your upper body propped up with some pillows.
  • Avoid consumption of foods that contain high amounts of acids like tomatoes and citrus fruits.
  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes as they tend to put pressure on the stomach, which can cause its contents to go into the esophagus.
  • Do not exercise at a full stomach; rather exercise previous to a meal or at least 1 hour subsequent to eating a meal.
