Homemade baby formula: Recipe to make your own baby food

Baby formulas are available in many types and flavor at grocery and baby stores but many people like to make their own baby food. The reasons behind making own baby food are things like recalls and unnecessary additives & fillers. Homemade baby formula is also fresh, healthy, delicious, nutritious and less expensive. The main benefits of making own baby food is that you will know what you are feeding to the baby and you can try different creations. Making baby food is very easy to make. Here are some of the recipes to make baby formula at home.
Always use filtered water and organic, clean & fresh ingredients to make baby food. You can use fresh/frozen vegetables and fruits but try to use fresh when possible. Don’t add salt or sugar to the food. Sterilize all the utensils with hot water before and after use. You should learn about the food groups which are allowed at different age groups. Wait 5 to 7 days before introducing another new food to the baby to know about any allergic reaction.
Recipes of Baby Formula
1, Rolled Oats and Bananas
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 ripe banana
- 1/4 cup water/milk
Method of Preparation:
Take a pan, add oats to water or milk (1/2 cup) and bring to boil. Boil for 5 mins and take away from the heat. Cover the pan and keep for 5 mins. Now, make the puree of the banana in the grinder and add the left over milk. After that, add this banana mixture in the cooked cereal.
2, Avocado and fruit salad
Ingredients:
- 3 bananas
- 3 avocados
- 3 Pears (steamed)
Method of Preparation:
First of all, slice the fruits after peeling and deseeding. Then put them in the blender and make a fine puree. You can add plain organic yogurt if your baby is above 8 months.
3, Rice and Fruit Squash
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Applesauce
- 1 or 2 cups cooked Brown rice
- 1 Squash (acorn, butternut or other winter squash)
Method of Preparation:
Preheat the oven at 400 degrees F. Cut the squash in half and remove the seeds. Then, put these halves in a big pan (face down) and pour water till the inch of the squash is covered. Bake the squash for around 40 mins in the preheated oven. After that, scoop out the pulp of the squash from the shell and put it in the grinder. Also, add applesauce and cooked rice to the grinder and then make a smooth and thin puree. Water can be added if needed.
4, Lentil Veggie Rice Delight
Ingredients:
- 1 Carrot
- 8-10 Beans
- 100 gram Rice
- 50 gram Lentils
Method of Preparation:
Take a pan, add carrot, beans, rice & lentils and cook for 10 min or till all the ingredients are cooked. Then blend all the cooked ingredients to make puree. Finally, add a minute pinch of salt.
5, Banana Applesauce Mush
Ingredients:
- 1 Apple
- 1 Banana
Method of Preparation:
Cut the peeled apple in to slices or chunks and place them in the pan. Add water to the pan till it cover apples slightly. Boil the apples till they become tender and make a puree. Now, mash a peel banana with the help of a fork. You can heat the banana for 20 secs in microwave to make it soft. Finally mix applesauce & banana and sprinkle wheat germ/crushed cheerios.
6, Root Vegetables Trio
Ingredients:
- 1 sweet potato
- 1 parsnips (peeled and chopped)
- 2-3 carrots (peeled and chopped)
Method of Preparation:
Peel and chop all the three vegetables and steam them for around 20 mins. Then make a smooth puree with the help of the blender. You can add some water/ milk.
