What is blood? :
Blood is a living tissue composed of blood cells suspended in plasma. 45% of the volume of whole blood is made from the cellular elements, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets and the remaining 55% by Plasma, which is 92% water.
Blood Group Types :
The RBCs (Red blood cell) present in the blood features proteins called antigens on their surface. The blood group type is determined and identified depending on the antigen on the RBC. The different blood groups are: A, B, AB or O and they all are in negative and positive blood groups.
O Blood Group
These people do not possess type A or type B antigens adhering to the surface of the RBC. Though they do have anti-A and anti-B antibodies in plasma. People with blood group O will have antibodies fighting with A and B blood groups.
In the past, O blood group was termed as “rare” blood. Donors of Blood group O were always referred to as “universal donors.”
All blood donors are significant, but if you are of type O or AB blood group, then you are special because type O negative red blood cells and type AB plasma can be transfused to any patient.
O Positive Blood facts
1. Depending on the Rhesus factor, O positive blood group is categorized as O positive blood and O negative blood. O blood group can receive blood from any O individual, but cannot receive blood from any of the A, B or AB group.
2. O positive blood can be given to people with other positive blood types such as A positive, B positive or AB positive blood groups so it is known as the universal donor. O positive blood people can receive blood from only O positive or O negative people. O negative people can receive blood from only O negative people.
3. O positive individuals are believed that they are not able to digest grains and dairy products but they can digest animal proteins easily, due to their high stomach acid content.
4. The University of Utah’s Genetic Science Learning Center states that parents with type O blood will have children with type O blood and O positive donors are more frequently needed as compared to the other types.
5. O positive blood is the commonest type of blood group found in 38% of the US population, according to the information provided by the American Red Cross.
