Sore throat is mostly a pharyngitis or tonsillitis caused by an infection of viruses or bacteria. Soreness by viruses usually develops with little or no fever whereas bacterial infections like strep throat often comes on suddenly with high fever. When the person is ill, a sore throat that is swollen and tender makes it hard to swallow and even breathe. Tonsils are red, swollen, spotted with white or yellow dots. Simple home remedy using salt water can help soothe the pain.

Sore Throat Treatment with Salt water
Swelling:
An infection trapping water in the throat’s moist tissues causes swelling of the throat. Salt draws the water out and dries the membranes to ease the swelling and pain.
Disinfectant:
Salt is a natural disinfectant so it is a great alternative remedy for sore throats. Germs that cause infections are also destroyed by salt. It is powerful in fighting infections.
Increases Circulation:
Salt water also improves circulation in the affected areas. More oxygen and faster healing are provided by increased blood supply and also bring antibodies to the area more rapidly and efficiently.
Prevention of Sore Throat:
Routine gargling with salt water helps to prevent sore throat from occurring in the first place by stopping infections before they can take hold. Gargling with a mix of ½ to 1 teaspoon salt to 1 cup of warm water once a day will greatly lessen the chances of developing a painful sore throat caused by staph infections.
Type of Salt:
Sea salt is better option than table salt. Plain table salt will work just fine for a sore throat.
Home remedies for sore throat using salt:
- Add the juice of one lemon and one teaspoon of salt to one cup of warm water. Gargle three times a day for one minute.
- Mix a teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of quite warm water. Gargle several times a day.
- Simmer 1 teaspoon marshmallow root and 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger root in 250 ml water for 10 minutes in a covered pot. Remove from the heat, cover and steep for additional 10 minutes. Strain, add honey, lemon and 1/2 teaspoon of salt and gargle every 30 minutes.
- Gargle with salt and vinegar water. Use it twice in a week.
- Mix ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder and ¼ teaspoon honey in ½ cup of water. Gargle twice a day.
- Take ½ piece of lemon put some salt and black pepper on it; press with a knife so that salt-pepper penetrates into the lime. Put the lemon on heat to make it warm. Slowly lick this lemon squeezing it until no juice remains. Do it 2-3 times a day.
- Make a regular tea with tea leaves, hot water and milk. Instead of adding sugar to the tea, add salt. Drink this 3 times daily and your sore throat will be gone within a day or two.
- Mix 1/2 teaspoon of each baking soda and salt with a 1/2 cup of warm water and gargle a few times each day.

sore throat feeling is a horrible one……..i’ve used the honey, lemon, and onion remedy. it z really works great!!
