Sweating is a normal part of life for most people but too much sweating including body-odor and perspiration stains deal with the awkwardness. In medical term, too much sweating is known as hyperhidrosis. It is a clinical condition where parts of the body are sweating beyond the bodies physiological requirements. About 1 to 2% of the world’s population suffers from too much sweating. Excessive sweating may bring a person to remove from civilization. Conversely, people resort to less communication with others to stay away from this awkward situation. The condition may lead person to have a lesser self-respect.

Sweat is a salty water with body waste created by sweat glands in skin layers. Sweating is 100%  natural process for the body to maintains temperature and also cools itself. Mainly, sweating takes place under the arms, on the neck, pelvic area and palms. Sometimes, sweating can occurs if body need to eleminate bacteria from the skin. Sweat is odorless but bacteria are responsible for the production of typical smell. 

Causes of Sweating Too Much:

Naturally, an individual tends to sweat a lot during workout in a hot environment or having high body temperature. Many women experience too much sweating as they approach menopause. Too much sweating without the given situation is abnormal. Here are some other possible causes of excessive sweating.

  • Overweight:

Many thin people also perspire heavily but problem becomes even worse if they are carrying around a few more pounds than they should be.

  • Anxiety:

Many people suffer from anxiety disorders and panic attacks. When an individual get unusually nervous, he/she often break out in a sweat.  People having real anxiety may perspire most of the time.

  • Medical conditions:

People who have thyroid problems, diabetes, blood pressure, gout,  cancer and other problems may sweat more than normal. This unpleasant side effect can also be caused by some medications.

Symptoms of excessive sweating:

The uncontrolled appearance of sweat is the typical presentation of excessive hand sweating or foot sweating. Without any identified reason, it can occur at any time. Generally, patients have these problems during their normal daily hours. It can affect functional and social settings of the people. There is no relationship between being anxious or active as this condition can occur at times when the person is not active or anxious. This symbolizes the autonomous nature of the sympathetic nervous system which is an involuntary one in comparison to the motoric or sensory nervous systems which are voluntary systems.

The hands (sweaty hands – palmar), feet (sweaty feet – plantar), and armpits (axillary) are the commonly affected areas of the body. A smaller group of patients have too much sweating on the armpits and face. To treat excessive sweating, different methods have been used such as herbal medications, different oral medications, lotions, and injections of botox.

Sweating Too Much Treatment:

If your sweating problem is due to genetic predisposition, you can’t completely over come. Otherwise you can get good result in your condition by following some home remedies. Other prefer taking Surgical treatments like liposuction procedure to cut out sweat glands

Here is a brief depiction of some of the therapy which are commonly used by doctors.

  • Iontophoresis:

Iontophoresis is painless therapy helps to restore the normal functioning of the sweat glands. In this process water is used to conduct a light electric current on your skin.  It requires few sessions to give improving result. Total sessions depends upon your body type and problem.

  • Oral Medication:

Anticholinergics are the oral medicines which work to ease sweating too much. Rubinol is an example of such a medicine. For most of the anticholinergics, a prescription from a registered medical practitioner is required. Long term usage of anticholinergics causes mouth dryness and blurred vision as reported in many cases.

  • Thoracis Sympathectomy:

It is the surgical option for excessive sweating. In this surgery, surgeon remove small part of nerve attached with sweat glands. It is very effective but at the same time it is risky also. This must be last option to consider.

How to avoid sweating too much?

  • Drysol is prescription medication made with aluminum chloride hexahydrate.  It works by blocking the sweat glands and plug the pores if applied at underarm. It must be used after consulting with doctor.
  • Nowadays, many over the counter formulas are available in the market. You need to try several to find the best one for your body type.
  • Most simple solution starts with your clothes. You can wear white 100% cotton t-shirt under your regular shirt to absorb the sweat. It is also easy to clean and maintain.
  • Regular bath will reduce the need of sweat from your body. It will remove dust and waste from skin as well as bacteria that produce bad odor.
  • Heavier people may perspire more and so they have a harder time cooling themselves. Try getting to a healthy weight and your perspiration issues may resolve themselves.
  • Trim your body hair regularly, it will remove the place for bacteria to grow.
  • Avoid very hot and spicy foods
  • Take an extra pair of shoes and socks with you in the morning if your feet are sweating excessively. Change both about half-way through your day as it will keep your feet dry.
  • You can buy an antiperspirant/deodorant from local drug store or grocery store. Try a few and determine if any of them decrease the amount you sweat. Different formulas may react differently with your body chemistry.

    i think we should keep cool shower regularly…..good deoderant
    wear cotton clothes!!

    my problem is that i sweat very much just walking from a long distance, even thow i am located in very hot enviroment. i presently in iraq, know tempertures get well above 100 plus over here,but it not i sweat when i am sitting inside or standing out side, just when i go for walk for a long distance, and by the time i get inside it takes me about five minutes just to cool down,by that time i can feel my body & clothes are sook from sweating. but again it not the sweat like your going have some say you smell,so what should do more , drink more water or is this something that would have to see my physician about.
