Natural disasters that occurred recently in Japan have also caused damage to the Nuclear Reactor that resulted in radiation leak. From the Japanese nuclear accident, radiation comes from two main sources; radioactive cesium (cesium 137) and radioactive iodine (iodine 131). Beta and gamma radiation are emitted by the radioactive iodine. At a very low level, radiation poses a risk to humans. Recently, Japanese officials have also found radiation in foods.
As per the statement on the Japanese health ministry’s website, as many as 99 products with the inclusion of milk and vegetables like spinach were found polluted with radioactive substance above the legal safety limit in Tokyo and five areas to its north and east as of March 26.
