FDA wants to post calorie counts on restaurant menus

On 1st April, the Food and Drug Administration proposed new rules about calorie counts. According to new rules, the chain restaurants with 20 or more places, bakeries, convenience stores, grocery stores, vending machines and coffee chains have to post the amount of calories in each item on menus and menu boards. This rule does not include bowling alleys, movie theaters, airplanes and other business as selling food is not their main business. New Drug Approved for Melanoma

On 25th March, The Food and Drug Administration had approved a new drug to treat the patients with late-stage melanoma which is the foremost cause of death from skin disease. The name of the drug is Yervoy (ipilimumab). In United States about 68,130 new cases of melanoma were identified in 2010 and around 8,700 people died from the disease. Melanoma is considered one of the deadliest types of skin cancer. Bristol-Myers Squibb and Medarex have developed this new drug. A monoclonal antibody, Yervoy works by blocking a molecule named cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen (CTLA-4). CTLA-4 delay or turn off the immune system of the body in fighting off cancerous cells.
